SIRIWAN
Terry Project Using Uncoated Earthenware /Flower space
Siriwan WatthanajindaWong (Bam) is a designer working with ceramic materials, collaborating with local communities to create sustainable designs. By using natural ceramic materials, she produces endless creations that blend the past, present, and future in a harmonious way.
This project is an extension of her work on developing ceramic materials in collaboration with local artisans skilled in wheel-throwing. As the popularity of traditional designs has decreased because people now seek external features such as glazed ceramics and intricate patterns, this shift led to the idea of creating beautiful ceramics from the inside out. Instead of external decoration, the attention is placed on the material’s porous properties, which help absorb moisture, odors, and sound, responding to the growing trend of green spaces and natural environments. By applying wheel-throwing and pressing techniques, diverse shapes can be created that serve both design and functional purposes, expanding the use of ceramic materials in contemporary interior design.
The design process also employs a modular system, allowing for versatility. The pieces can be adapted into partitions, side tables, vases, and candle holders. Their water-retaining properties also make them ideal for holding plants, particularly ornamental and flowering plants, which thrive in this environment. The production process, from start to finish, ensures zero waste, as ceramic materials can be fully recycled and reprocessed. Additionally, the local community benefits from job opportunities throughout the production cycle.
In joining the Bangkok Design Week 2025 program, we aim to present this new concept as a tool to promote local flower shops in the Pak Khlong Talat area. We will invite local flower shops to arrange flowers in our ceramic pots, representing their shops and creating small gardens that link the flower shops with the local community’s way of life. This will help cultivate a lively and unique atmosphere that reflects the long-standing history of the flower trade in this area.
We hope that attendees and passersby in the Pak Khlong Talat area will be inspired by the fresh, vibrant atmosphere and enjoy collaborating in creating unique flower arrangements in small ceramic pots. This initiative will highlight Pak Khlong Talat as a central hub for flower trading in Thailand, while also fostering positive changes in the area. We also hope that this design effort will not only beautify the space but will also create lasting impacts on the lives of those in the community and offer continued opportunities for creative collaboration.
