Power of Design

Thailand’s creative industries consist of 15 sectors. How will they help improve our lives in the city? Urban Ally invites everyone to experience the Power of Design project, which will tell the story of the power of design through the following activities: 1. Foodscape on the Wall by Harid (Infinite Riot) Since Phra Nakhon is considered the ‘kitchen of Bangkok,’ there are many shops, restaurants, and street vendors that attract both Thai and international tourists to taste its unique flavors. We would like to take this opportunity to make this old area more livable, attractive, and worth investing in. This led to the idea of ‘FOODSCAPE ON THE WALL,’ presenting the highlights of restaurants in Phra Nakhon through wall art, in collaboration with entrepreneurs in the community. 2. Nature-best Survival by Nature and City Scape Analytics (NACSA) x Locolab Nature-best Survival is a mixed-media work that combines natural photographs on large canvases with stories that locals yearn for, along with giant sculptures that parody nature for people to interact with. By sitting, lying, or playing to view the photographs on the canvas, it is like an experimental natural museum in the city. This piece aims to bring back the only remaining natural wilderness in the area to the imagination of city people. It presents a challenge: “If we change our thinking and approach to urban development in the future, the lost nature will return.” 3. Cut-up the Harmonies by Kittiphan Janbuala and CMM Collective If ‘houses’ could make noise, there would be many stories and moments they would want to tell people. But in reality, houses cannot make noise. Therefore, as time passes, the stories gradually fade away, to the point that people may forget that many memories happened here. The project presents an audiovisual installation through projection mapping to tell the story of the place through a new interpretation of sound and graphics, as if a house is making noise. 4. Undercurrent by SARATHMAYTHISA and FRIENDS In a capital city where almost every movement is controllable, this piece aims to present the opposite of this certainty through a smooth and flexible surface. It intends to transform the area in front of Bangkok City Hall into a playground where everyone can play and participate in the creation at the same time, including choosing things that can be used in the future. 5. Street Story by Aksornsanan x Lanmita Street - People - Walking tells the story of three streets through exhibition signs installed on walls or in various public places, using illustrations and layouts to present stories, lifestyles, and events on the three streets. 6. Happy Tummy by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nippatchanok Nachapinij, along with a team of lecturers and students from Suan Dusit University Food drives people's lives, providing energy and strong bodies to create strong cities, a living space full of happiness with food science and art. However, with the current situation where people in the city are in a hurry, many cannot access quality food as they should. Therefore, we would like to invite designers, chefs, and restaurant entrepreneurs to create food that meets the sustainability needs of people in the city. 7. The Invisible Garden: Resonated Ground by Nerd Studio ft. Siravith Kongbandalsuk A sound installation that reimagines the functionality of conventional instruments (cymbals) and explores their interplay with mechanical "bug" devices (movable objects), results in a randomized amalgamation of visual and sonic element which is a metaphorical representation of swarms of mechanical creatures traversing and animating a resonant landscape. 8. Outdoor Audio Guide by The Contextual Listen to stories of the district at the actual location. Simply bring your headphones and scan the QR Code to start a new city exploration experience in a short time.
