HAY Colour Crate Garden
HAY, a Danish design company founded by Rolf and Mette Hay in 2002, was established with the belief that "good design is everyone’s right." Known for its simple yet detail-oriented designs, HAY offers everything from large furniture pieces to small accessories like tote bags, stationery, and toothbrushes—each crafted to meet the needs of everyday life while embodying the essence of Scandinavian design.
This year, HAY Bangkok, the first HAY flagship store in Southeast Asia, located at Warehouse 30 on Charoenkrung Road, is sharing the spirit of design with the community through the HAY Colour Crate Garden. This installation art project repurposes HAY's iconic Colour Crates—colourful, eco-friendly plastic storage crates made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic—to transform a 100-square-meter space into a vibrant green public area. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a harmonious blend of floral colors and design, combining Danish aesthetics with the charm of Bangkok, right in front of the HAY Bangkok store on Charoenkrung 30.
Inside the store, visitors can experience a unique blend of Bangkok’s old-town charm and contemporary global design. The space features walls adorned with celadon concave tiles, inspired by the gentle flow of water and crafted in a soft, distinctive green. Designed by contemporary Thai artist Mo Jirachaisakul, these tiles showcase an innovative use of traditional Thai ceramic glazing techniques, incorporating ash sourced from street food vendors. This approach eliminates the need to burn wood for ash production, contributing to sustainability.
At HAY Bangkok, customers can explore a full range of Scandinavian design products across two floors, including home décor, stationery, kitchenware, and furniture for living rooms, dining areas, workspaces, and outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a small accessory or a large furniture piece, every HAY product is thoughtfully designed with simplicity, functionality, and character, ensuring that good design is accessible to everyone.
