ริทัศน์บางกอก
a-way home
In the past, Hua Lamphong was a main hub for people from the provinces coming to Bangkok in search of work, with employment offices around the train station distributing workers throughout the city. Today, that bustling image is gone, especially since Bangkok Train Station now only serves short-distance trains.
However, the community in the Hua Lamphong area is still full of workers coming to Bangkok. These people, vital to the area’s economy, are a hidden population largely unnoticed by both the government and the city's residents. Hua Lamphong is one of many places that could represent their story.
The exhibition therefore intends to tell the stories of these people through photographs and tools for making a living. It also offers a place to exchange ideas, allowing the general public to become more familiar with and see a clearer picture of the existence of these hidden populations in the city. It is hoped that this will make people who live ‘far’ from home feel a little ‘closer’ to home, connecting people inside and outside of the community, and helping them to recollect “a-way home.”
