Taiwan Creator Around

Runes in Sustainable Blessing :Multicultural Flow Pray and B

In a world of rapid change and uncertainty, the wisdom of our cultural heritage serves as a guiding light. From the historical migrations of the Chinese diaspora to Taiwan and Southeast Asia, to the vibrant presence of contemporary Chinese communities in Bangkok, these narratives exemplify a commitment to cultural preservation amidst evolving landscapes. These migrations and their cultural imprints have woven a rich tapestry of diverse identities across Southeast Asia, now serving as a vital source of inspiration as we navigate the complexities of the modern world. At its heart, this initiative places the Southeast Asian Chinese community as its focal point, envisioning it as a bridge where the past and present converge. It delves into the historical and cultural essence of old Chinese towns through a dual lens of time and space, while integrating the multifaceted cultural identities of the Southeast Asian diaspora. By distilling representative elements and values, the project reimagines them through an innovative and approachable aesthetic, ensuring their relevance in contemporary society. This endeavor highlights the enduring charm and authentic human connections found in modern-day migrant folk culture. Anchored in the symbol of “Fu,” representing fortune and prosperity, this initiative embodies the theme Design Up+Rising by proposing a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation. The exhibition invites the public to engage in a dialogue about sustainability and cultural inclusivity, sparking a positive force for creative exploration across time and space. The exhibition journeys through Southeast Asia, celebrating the region's cultural diversity and its potential to shape contemporary design. It integrates the rich identities of countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, alongside the historical and contemporary narratives of Chinese communities. This harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity spans a broad geographical scope. The project connects Taiwan (Tainan and Taipei) and Indonesia (Bandung), culminating in Bangkok at the green space of Varaporn House, located in Charoen Krung. This site, now part of the Bangkok Museum, collaborates with the Insat-Sa-Ang Foundation and Dr. Francis Christian Foundation to promote Varaporn House as a community folk learning center. Here, the project engages with local communities and undertakes practical research. The exhibition fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together creators from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Artists and scholars offer insights into cultural hybridization, weaving diverse identities and perspectives into a cohesive and innovative narrative. Visitors are invited to reflect on the delicate balance between cultural preservation and innovation, envisioning how culture can drive progress. By connecting the past with the future and embracing cultural diversity, the exhibition embodies the spirit of “Design Up+Rising,” transforming challenges into opportunities and fostering hope for a better world. Together, let us rise for an up+rising in design—one that celebrates cultural sustainability, inspires collaboration, and shapes a brighter future.
