Heritage Habitats

Heritage Habitats - the transformation showcase2

Heritage Habitat Group: Where Creativity and Tradition Intersect In the heart of Bangkok's historic district, a collective known as the “Heritage Habitats” Group has emerged, born from the fusion of 3 Design Studio , Studio / Us, CODE Studio, and The Roots Routes. These studios have seamlessly transformed the second of those old shophouses into new living spaces, tucked away in the charming alleys of the city's ancient core. Their story intertwines with the essence of Bangkok Design Week 2024, painting a vibrant picture under the theme "Livable Scape: Where Every Action Enhances the City." Our group aims to share their experiences of living in the old city and their work related to architectural conservation, cultural heritage, and senses of community and neighborhood. We would like to invite visitors to explore our new workspaces, which serve as showcases for utilizing vacant spaces in the old city. Additionally, we would like to encourage participants to join guided tours through three connected districts: The woodcraft district, Dinsor neighborhood, Tee Thong area. Participants can immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of each area, moving from one studio to another. Upon completing the tour of all three studios, attendees receive souvenirs. Objective of the exhibition 1. Building a Network: Create a network of individuals interested in repurposing and reutilizing vacant spaces in the old city. 2. Changing Perspectives: Offer participants a new perspective on the old city, emphasizing not just its tourist attractions but also how living in a cultural heritage area enhances quality of life. 3. Inspiring Innovation: Encourage participants to innovate and adapt new perspectives to their own living spaces, considering the benefits of traditional homes and neighborhoods. Exhibition Studio | us is an architect who is passionate about renovating old buildings using various methods. They have gained valuable experience in the process of restoring and revitalizing these old structures, driven by their deep enthusiasm. These old buildings serve as a gateway to immerse themselves in the historic atmosphere of Rattanakosin Island's dirt road. From this perspective, there are numerous stories stemming from their relentless efforts to restore these buildings and create an architect's studio dedicated to conservation. Studio | us is located in a row of rooms at the forefront of the Dinsor road. This row of rooms, named "Komolwattana," originally consisted of two residential rooms and one shop specializing in Buddhist art. The shop gathers the works of young artists dedicated to Buddhist art, cherished by those who appreciate this form of artistry. However, behind the facade of these old row buildings lies a remarkable and architecturally distinguished ancient house, dating back to the 7th reign. This house carries with it stories and memories from World War II. Additionally, the Dinsor road area is renowned for its culinary delights. Therefore, they invite you to listen to the stories, witness the renovation, and exchange experiences with the architect, who wishes to become a part of the old town's community. They also extend this invitation to the original owners of these historic buildings. You are welcome to explore the ancient houses, the shop specializing in Buddhist art, and the transformation process of this old building, while engaging in conversations and admiring the old architecture. There will be refreshments and delectable food from renowned local establishments in the "old" neighborhood along the dirt road. Activity Exhibition Hours: 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM From Saturday, January 27th, to Sunday, February 4th On days without scheduled events, you can leisurely stroll in to observe and converse with the architect about the restoration of Studio | us 's old buildings. You can also take a sneak peek behind the scenes at the ancient house from the 7th reign, situated behind the studio's workspace.
