Pride Borneo

Lemulun: A Community Batik Workshop

"Lemulun" is a Community Batik art installation by Pride Borneo. The installation art starts of with white canvases, and the public is invited to paint on the traditional batik motifs, a culture shared by Southern Thailand and Malaysia. Over time, the installation will evolve from a plain, white canvas into a colorful work of art, signifying the spectrum of humanity within the region. While the Community Batik is open to everyone of all ages, we also offer art classes to learn the art of batik: - The Basic Batik Class offer a canvas that are lined with traditional patterns for participants to color-in, just like a coloring book. - The Advanced Batik Class offer a blank canvas and participants learn how to line their custom patterns onto the canvas with wax; after which, participants can then color-in the lines they've designed. The price depends on the size of the canvas. The natural dyes for the batik are sourced from the marginalized communities in Borneo (Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei). These dyes include turmeric, butterfly pea, roselle, coffee, vegetables, and fruits. Community Batik: Free (No Age Limit) Basic Batik Class: 100 - 500 THB (Depending on Canvas Size | 0.5-1 Hours) Advanced Batik Class: 1,000 - 2,000 THB (Depending on Canvas Size | 4-5 Hours)
