Salin

Salin

Salin Cheewapansri, simply known as Salin, is a Thai-born, Canadian-based drummer, producer, and composer, with the new genre of music "Afro/Funk/Isan" From playing on Dominique Fils-Aimé’s Juno award-winning-album ‘Stay Tuned’ to sharing the stage with Ariane Moffat, Madame Ghandi, and Dabin to name a few, Salin introduced the world to her own debut album ‘Cosmic Island’ in 2021. The album has been critically acclaimed by CBC, Le Devoir, Earmilk etc. Following her release, Salin, joined by a 10-piece live band “The Infinite Connection”, has had the privilege to perform at several festivals, including the beloved Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2022, Salin traveled to Northeastern Thailand, to a region called “Isan”, with the purpose of exploring the local sounds and musical traditions that permeate the territory. The trip was a fruitful experience that became the source of inspiration for a new sound, which bridges elements of traditional Thai instruments with the rhythm and groove of Soul/ Funk and 70’s West African psychedelia. Working with both local Thai as well as Canadian musicians, Salin is bringing together elements of East and West in the form of her second full-length album, set to be released in 2024.
