Bangkok Street Food: The New Version The “Bangkok Street Food: The New Version” program explores the different ways that Bangkok can maintain and develop its street food identity, considering solutions in government policy, design and the public mindset of street hawkers, consumers, pedestrians, local authorities and other stakeholders. “Bangkok Street Food: The New Version” will explore the different plans for maintaining and developing the city’s identity. Policy “What role, if any, should government policy have in managing street hawkers for public orderliness?” How can government policy play a role in managing street food in Bangkok such that it reflects the needs of the modern era, the holistic context of the city, and the local context of each area. These policies may include both regulatory controls and supportive measures to create a mechanism that fosters mutual satisfaction and benefit while considering legal compliance as well as the merchants, consumers, motorists and property owners involved. Design “Do we need to design anything?” “If something needs to be designed, fixed, improved or supported, what would we design?” What is the tool or what is important for achieving the mutual satisfaction and benefit of merchants, consumers, motorists and other stakeholders? How can that tool become a kind of collective asset that benefits the community or the individual? There are a variety of design solutions that can serve the basic needs of the public, such as health, cleanliness, waste management and space management. Design can also support an area’s sense of identity and provide mechanisms for local income generation, space utilization and communication, both in the physical space and through services. Public Mindset “How does knowledge and understanding of the public mindset affect the behavior of merchants, consumers, pedestrians, local authorities and other stakeholders?” “If it does matter, which issues should we raise awareness of and what tools and methods would promote behavior change in the short and long term?” What issues stem from the public mindset of merchants? What issues stem from the public mindset of consumers? What issues stem from the public mindset of pedestrians? What issues stem from the public mindset of local authorities? What issues stem from the public mindset of other stakeholders?
