Green Hacker

"Green Hacker" is the 'theft' of abandoned areas based on the Guerrilla Garden concept, a 'stealth movement ‘ for the gardening on abandoned land to bring areas to life. While not "legal,” the activity has become so accepted it has even garnered direction from state agencies. Guerrilla Gardening started in the 1970s when the Green Guerrilla group sculpted seed balls of tomatoes and fertilizer and sowed them in wasteland throughout New York City, ultimately transforming a lifeless plot into the Bowery-Houston Community Farm and Garden, now the oldest community vegetable garden in the city. The success of the movement set off a trend across the globe. Green Hacker is building a friendly city through the theft of 4 micro-abandoned areas. The areas are to be stolen by 4 designers from 4 communities looking to bring a new perspective to green space. Watch out for the abandoned area near you!
