The Standard Presents Jaime Hayon
The Standard is proud to present “Shadow Theatre”, an exhibition by Jaime Hayon, visionary artist and designer selected for the interior design of The Standard’s Asia flagship hotel in Bangkok at Mahanakhon.
With a series of works born of a distinct approach to creativity and design, Jaime Hayon’s exhibition explores his unique and intriguing vision of a “circus fantasy”. Art pieces are presented as an immersive “theatre” experience inspired by the age-old Thai theatre of “Nang Talung”, a traditional style of shadow puppetry. The vast space of the Chaiphatthanasilp Building in Charoenkrung is where the audience will find themselves immersed in a larger-than-life theatrical landscape of vibrant design and creativity. The ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary through a contemporary interpretation of folklore and tradition.
“Shadow Theatre” is a recreation of Hayon’s collection of paintings done throughout the years, where the characters and elements come to life in three-dimensional form. Dream-like Surrealist-inspired visuals captivate with a sense of playfulness and are perfectly complemented by music curated by The Standard. This is just a taste of what is to come at Mahanakhon, in the world of “The Standard x Jaime Hayon”.
